One of many rumoured bastards of the local Lord of Rufford, Sir William De Hesketh, Gryffen decided to take the name and a few pilfered items and fled Lancaster to make a life for himself in the south.
As a means of keeping in trouble he joined the first group of mercenarys he could find and learnt the noble arts of the archer.
Fought in Agincourt in the retinue of Sir Richard Hastings.
